Let Them Eat Cake, She Said

The words, “let them eat cake” have always been attributed to Marie Antoinette when a contemporary informed her the people were becoming restless over the imbalances of food and resource distribution in France. The elite had all they could ever possibly want, while the common people had virtually nothing.

Now to make the point clear here, she wasn’t inviting people in to partake of a party feast. Quite to the contrary, when she said “let them eat cake,” she was referring to dung cake. Thus, her response to the people’s unrest was basically, “eat shit and die!”

The elite viewed their life of luxury as something too good to give up, and as a result kept taking more and more, throwing the country into poverty. In the end they paid the piper when the people finally revolted and removed them from power and their precious lifestyle.

So now we’re being told the solution to our economic crisis is to do without. We must “conserve” as the prices keep going up and up and up. We’re encouraged to drive less, use less lighting in our homes, turn our thermostats way down, and take fewer vacations.

All of this while companies like Mobil/Exxon boast of their record profits quarter after quarter, and the CEOs of utility companies become millionaires. And there seems to be plenty of resources to throw into the great war machine to keep this whole elitist-class-glutting process going indefinitely.

It makes one wonder if “conservation” is just a new way of saying, “eat shit and die.”

It also makes one wonder how long the common folk will put up with it this time.
